Screen Resolution....... (Why?)......
Your computer’s display will have a resolution described as ‘native’ - of particular
importance if it is a ‘Flat-Panel’ (LCD), less so for older style CRTs
This is usually (but not always) the highest resolution possible on your PC/Mac
Typically, the display will always perform best at this native setting - having a sharper,
crisper look to it - particularly text. Other settings may well have a slightly blurred look.
As a consequence it is usually better / easier on the eye to work in ‘native’ resolution.
To adjust the setting (PCs) go to :
‘Start’ > ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Display’ > ‘Settings’ Tab
On the left of the Window there is a slider allowing you to select a resolution setting.
Typically you will have options for:
(Lower) 800 x 600 1024 x 768 1280 x 1024 1400 x 1050 ...(Higher)?
...and so on - depending on your PC or laptop’s graphics ability.
Select a setting and experiment - particularly with Web pages - although the effect
will probably be very apparent from within the control panel window itself.
Set (‘apply’) the option that works best for you.
The higher the setting the more ‘area’ you see on the screen but the icons and text
will look correspondingly smaller
This settings control panel also allows adjustment of the colour: Low/Med/High
Apple Macs:
Similar argument - go to (OSX) ‘System Preferences’ > ‘Displays’ and adjust accordingly
FONT (Typeface)
It pays to ensure that your computer has the correct typeface(s) otherwise web-sites
may look a little ‘odd’ if your PC / Browser substitutes a different one to that used
in the original design
This site uses a very standard typeface:- Arial
